Killing Monsters - Toggle off Messages

It's pretty annoying when you're killing monsters and getting all these kinds of messages:

Your glacius does 2643 damage to Water Elemental.
Your glacius does 2643 damage to Water Elemental.
You knocked Water Elemental out!
You gained 612 exp and 234 gold.
Your glacius does 2643 damage to Water Elemental.
Your glacius does 2643 damage to Water Elemental.
You knocked Water Elemental out!
You gained 510 exp and 195 gold.

Now that monster training is becoming more and more popular, would it be possible to make a toggle off switch for the:
-"Your glacius does ____" mesages.
-"You knocked out ____" messages.
-"You gained ___ exp and ___ gold" messages.

So you could toggle it off, and still follow the convos in OOC and other channels. As some of the old players know reading books used to spam your screen too, an option to toggle this off would be great.

Define messages?

The whole text? Just the damage? Gold?*

Personally if you can make it look good and work good in TWC, which I know you can, then I'd be willing to try a prototype to see how the community responds. Perhaps with a toggle like you did with the map view.

Of course that's if you're willing to go that extra mile to see if people like it.


*In my personal opinion, regardless of which route you took, I'm not sure how I'd like it. Which is why I', suggesting you let us see it in action. I just don't know.

People seem to like counting their hits, I'm afraid that if we switch people won't be able to keep count as easily on how many hits they get on someone or they'd have hard time spamming OOC with damage messages.

A benefit would be the ability to tell when someone hits themselves during a fight.
Another would be easily telling when someone hits you but HP bar already solved that.

I think that even with F_Damage, I'd still want a way to toggle damage messages.
However, F_Damage would certainty be a nice feature to add, I've asked a few people (DEMONIC) and they think it would be nice.

Further more, this suggestion isn't just about damage text but also about monster kill gains text
"You knocked Water Elemental out!
You gained 612 exp and 234 gold."

This gets rather spammy when you kill a lot of monsters which makes it hard to follow the chat screen even without the damage messages.

Adding on to Rotem's post in regards to the monster specific text.

Many people like watching movies and stuff while book reading, and it's no secret that we do that while stat training sometimes too. We'll sit in a corner and watch some entertainment.

I generally use my laptop for the movie. Weather it be a DvD, or netflix. The problem with that is, nobody likes watching a small movie.

SO, My solution was to make my TWC screen a small box in the corner of my screen. Generally I'll have it  from bottom stretched to the top, but enclosed in the right side of my laptop screen. With the monster text, it makes it so you actually have to REALLY watch the output bar so you don't miss a staff member AFK checking you while watching the movie. Thank god Rotem's name is pink, if it was Justin I'd have missed the check last night.

None-the-less, I think trying out F_Damage and having a toggle for all text related to monster killing, player killing, and spell hits would be amazing. Meeting in the middle like this and adding F_Damage sounds like a wonderful idea.

I haven't looked at the maptext stuff, but would it be more customize-able to use that built in function to act as damage text? Considering it can take HTML and such. Just an idea.

What if you have the output window separated into two, chat + action wherein the action box is smaller by default but can be dragged to be bigger?

(@Lavitiz: The implementation choice of using maptext or F_damage is irrelevant.)
