OWLs Suggestion

If there are ever OWL exams again I suggest changing how it's done. Right now IIRC OWLs are just done by a GM creating a quiz then grading people on basic spell questions. The problem with that is, the GM has to take all that time to correct the answers. And if a student wants to lessen the challenge, they can just search on the forums for spell lists or prepare beforehand to find the answers.

What I suggest to change this:

Program something like the automatic AFK check. So a GM could create a bunch questions with 4 multiple choice answers for each. During the OWL each participant would get the questions pop up on their screen with only a limited amount of time to answer them. (15 seconds max?) Basically, just enough time to read the question and think it over for a few seconds. If you didn't answer it in time, it'd choose a random answer for you.

This way OWLs would be easier to host for GMs. The correcting should be able to be done automatically in the code. More interactive for the students + it should actually be a challenge to see who knows the material off the top of their head. (I mean sure you could still gather a list of everything and try to cheat, but it'd be a lot harder. You could play around with the time limit to lessen this problem)

Yea that's precisely what I thought I'd do but source peakerssss.

But now with how auto classes work, I might also have a practical part to the exam.

Rotem

This is mostly note to self since we definitely are adding this, sooner or later.

Questions won't be hard coded but defined on runtime and saved, this will allow teachers to write their own exams.
Only from level 501 can this be attended.

Group it with auto classes random event so that it's possible to do it randomly, manually as well as schedule it to a precise time. (Basically I want to expand auto classes further using this).

I'm not yet sure about the reward nor the practical exam part. If anyone have any ideas, feel free.
(Hint, I don't have idea for rewards because I don't really want to add apparition, the current design of that is too abusive, by current design I mean latest suggestion)

As for practical exam, I kind of like the idea of this event becoming a trivia thing where players who hate to go outside fit in but I also don't really want players who hate going outside, I do want to introduce as many elements of TWC as possible within the exam without hurting them on a level where they say 'this is too hard I give up.'. I kind of feel OWLs should give players a taste of a fun activity, not just genin exam or kill 1000 floating eyes.

OWLs should are like your high school diploma, it should be a big deal. It may be wise to even block usage of advanced spells pre-OWLs, it's just that drastic. Or perhaps add a new set of spells only obtained via OWL trails... I DON'T KNOW MIND CAN'T STOP BEING CREATIVE.

Feel free to brainstorm, eventually I'll add something, whether it's an easy trivia or that and more.

Vanchi

bump, is this getting added soon?

My plans for next update are actually different so this is at the sidelines at the moment.

Since I plan to have more floors to CoS easy way to get to floors without having to kill every boss is required, for that we're going to add teleport crystals.

I also want to add a few new quests.
Then it's also sorting out clan wars schedule...

Besides that there's a bunch of staff changes I'll be doing, for example give prize verb will receive 2 new prize tiers of items. We'll be releasing some of those new wearables Justin added awhile back as well as some wigs.

Basically I've made a bunch of big updates and I need to stop and refine the work I've already done instead of just skip to the next thing. Clans also started to idle out, I want to re-add clan wars as soon as possible.

Yes, yes and yes. I think it's fun for teachers to make their questions, as they're the ones actually teaching these spells. I know I would think it's fun to make questions for others.

I still don't see what's too abusive about my idea but okay. I think the reward should be something really good, because this is basically your graduation exam.

Here's my idea: Break up the exam into 2 parts.
1) Written exam
2) Demo exam

The 1st part will test your general knowledge of TWC's spells and functions.
The 2nd part will show if you know how to operate the spells when faced with an obstacle.

2nd part would be something like the challenges that are present in the Harry Potter games 1-3 after you learn a new spell.

New set of spells sounds really good. Not quite sure if blocking some spells pre-OWLs is the best decision (would these new spells have any other function other than the sole purpose of being able to block the pre-OWL spells? If that's the case I don't see a big point in adding them).

Perhaps we could give the people who passed a super awesome spell in the class they got the most points in. It would be something they have that's a bit unique, yet everyone can get in the end.

If we're going off this idea I think this is what we could do for the new "super awesome spells" in each class:

  • Charms - A new hat summoning spell, which summons a hat that will tell you your wizard alignment. (Wizard alignment would be determined by your reputation in the new reputation system Rotem is coming up with).
  • DADA - A new projectile spell with a complex stat algorithm, for most it would do less damage, but for others it would do more.
  • COMC - A neat summoning spell. (Perhaps you could summon a random boss)
  • Transfiguration - You'll be given the ability to send an icon and choose an animagus (Admins will be able to look it over).
  • GCOM - A spell that protects you from targeting spells.
  • HM - Short term apparation like the GMs but has a cooldown of a 60 seconds.
