Marauder's Map

A new item suggestion.

A "Marauder's Map"; a rare, limited and expensive item (much like the magic eye) where you can view the location of everybody online. However, this can be countered by Occlumency and also wearing Clan Robes (look at my clan robes post, if someone could icon that, you'd be considered a God). Perhaps it could also view other things, idk.. such as.. the most recent kill (player on player)?

Obviously, it would be a map of the whole of TWC including (active) secret passageways.

Thoughts?

If it can be counted by occlumency it's a lot like telendevour besides the recent kills feature you mentioned.

This has been suggested 10s of times throughout the years maybe more, it wasn't plausible back then so it probably isn't now.

How would you condense the entire map of the game on to a little picture? If there is a way to do it, it'd probably be impossible within the TWC source.

You could take the HaH route and and just show the name of the location based on x,y,z but that really wasn't cool at all.

You could have a bigger map show up, and you click a sector which opens up a mini-map type window and shows all the players in the area.

OR! The map could just be a really big mini map the covers all or part of your screen. You just couldn't use it while walking and stuff.

Countless ways you could make it work, the question is which would be better for TWC.

Is there a way to incorporate the actual TWC map into a Mini-map type dealio?

Not feasibly, no.
Honestly, the only way that comes to mind right now is too much effort for such a minor feature.
It could possibly be generated manually, but
A: I'm not going to do it every time I want to change something on the map; and
B: Simply getting an image of TWC's entire map, then making it smaller, will probably look shit.

I remember Jozo did a quite good marauders map. It wasn't that what you though of at all, but you could add the secret passages and I personally liked it.

Why not just a scroll that tells you like "[Player] is in [Location], [Number] squares [Direction] of you"? It'd look ugly but it's pretty much the same thing and is less x, y, z than HaH's version.

Add a random 4 by 4 picture of the player and the squares around him just to make it more visually appealing for some of the less competent players! ;D

Because several floors are on the same Z level, so say Bobby was on the first floor, and Savanna was on the second, the direction from Bobby to Savanna might very well be "east", which doesn't really mean much.

How about using area tiles to show what room a player is it? So, when a player calls Entered() on a tile in the charms classroom, a variable would change to their location name.

Since this isn't how the map really is, someone would have to change how the map is handled every time to allow new areas to display "correctly".
