Instead of Automated Classes, perhaps professors could permanently be in their rooms and send pupils off on quests rewarded with Practice wands.

Or even simpler Practice Wands could be a drop from Monsters or bought from Ollivander. Either way, I'm not fond of Automated Classes because of their scheduled nature.

I think giving more opportunities for new students to learn spells is a good way of encouraging newcomers to explore TWC rather than wait for the next class (and book read while waiting).
