[6:11:50 AM] Justin D'Attilio: Hi.
[6:13:34 AM] Justin D'Attilio: Is it time to revive TWC yet

So Justin sent this and honestly I don't log on TWC to even know what's going on, frequent updates by me occur when I find something cool, it excites me and I just jump in but right now there's no such idea, it's all dull and quite honestly the community did not find anything I did to be entertaining as proven by the constant decline in activity, everyone near me keeps calling TWC boring and I do not really know how to change that.

I'll be honest here and say that I got a new keyboard that made TWC dueling not fun, you can blame Spitfire and Kyo for that, thinking backwards I should've went with Linshon's recommendations instead but hey it's too late for that, dueling was my fun in TWC and honestly even if I had a proper keyboard the dueling scene in TWC is dead and no update whatsoever can revive it only players can revive pvp.

When I added matchmaking, the older players who liked dueling said they'll take care of the hype, they'll make sure newer players get into it, they didn't fail, they didn't even try, they just up and went poofed into the air, there was a clear deal, I work my ass off to make the code, to make a nice system and I worked a fuckton of hours for a week to make it, it was quick, it was well tested and it was launched properly, I did my part. You can not expect me to do everything.

So entertaining players with pvp failed on two fronts, matchmaking and clans, I knew clans will fail and predicted drama always fades, although it was a mistake to promise new clans because I could not deliver them, I had faith people will support me and I waited too long on others, by then my motivation to create new clans was gone and right now looking at how many players we get, anything I make won't be that beneficial.

Then there's anything I did with pve, some people did find it entertaining but people still sat down afk mostly and decline continued whenever I didn't update TWC for over a week. Yes that's right, if I didn't update TWC for over 7 days we'd go down from 30 players daily to 20 but if I did we'd remain on 30, for some reason people only sticked around to see new shit I throw in and sure enough I feel guilty because if I was motivated and did updates every week it'd be different right?

My biggest happy came with the update that included experience levels, the unlimited book reading, people were on for weeks, it seemed so effective but that too faded and even book reading failed.

With all my attempts, updates, all the elaborate systems I added in, the content, the items, I failed to conjure this thing called "fun", TWC is supposedly boring or so Kole said today, he called TWC boring but honestly Kole did not experience all the updates, he knows it's updated and there's a ton he didn't do but hey, it's boring.

While a bit frustrating, it brings a question, what can I do to make a 2D game fun? And please don't expect me to do it all on my own, I am definitely not Murrawhip, I am not responsible for TWC, I am not paying the server fees, I am not really the main developer nor the owner. I am simply one person out've the community who did my best to contribute, I donated my free time and skill.

A lot of people donated their time, be it GMs or people that helped reporting bugs or developing via github, suggestions and even players who just played the game and kept it alive via their interactions with others.

So here's my conclusion to this, do not look at me to do anything because I have no tricks up my sleeve and there's literally nothing I can do, I don't know what to do and while I'm open to ideas, here's a thought: you as a community are responsible for TWC, it's your game, neither I or Murra benefit from it and there's not a single thing I can do that will be nearly as powerful and effective as actions taken by the community.

If you want TWC to be fun, make it fun. Don't let your dreams be dreams, just do it.
In case you got an idea, suggestion board is open, I wrote up new clan rules for the purpose of not letting a leader disappear and kill a clan, if a clan wipe or forced vote is required, let me know. If you have ideas for things GMs could do, let us know. It's your game, it will only die if you let it.

BRACE YOURSELVES!

And when winter does come, I'll be back. For like... 3 weeks.

During that time, I plan to make a trailer or two for TWC. I've realized that TWC should come first before my youtube channel (which is really just Picklejarz and I fooling around), as such I will work on promoting TWC for people whenever I'm not in college (note: I'm not a communications/media major, lol).

This suggestion is to whoever further develops TWC and that doesn't include just Rotem: I would try and get TWC to work on the web client ASAP. Making TWC more accessible will encourage more people to play and possibly stay in TWC, which is vital in this community.

Other than that, survive through the winter, study for midterms, and STAY MAGICAL!

Physically unable to play as often as I used to. New updates means new content to advertise.

I have spent much of today advertising on various forums (HP & MMORPG) for TWC. I'm not sure where Lucifer used to advertise but whatever he did worked.

I suggest others begin advertising for TWC and reach to some new playerbase; it is not possible to continually hope old gens will continue to play years on with many of us now full time working, in relationships and have other irl affairs.

I recommend a target audience of 11-18 year olds if possible - this should create a successful future base. Create an advertisement of a few paragraphs simply promoting TWC - I will include my paragraph at the bottom of this post.

Methods I have used/want to suggest:

- I have Googled "Harry Potter Forum" or "Small MMORPG forum" or "MMORPG forum", signed up to a bunch and tried to reply to posts/create threads to advertise where appropriate (I don't want to spam and tarnish the game's image before people have even started reading the post LOL).

- Could we use our Twitter account to search for Tweets relating to people looking for Small MMORPGs/2D Games/Harry Potter Game Content/I am Bored and advertise?

- Could we use our Facebook account to visit Harry Potter fan pages, MMORPG fan pages and Game fan pages? I bet there are hundreds of pages on Facebook dedicated to advertising or for people looking to game online. OUR FACEBOOK ACCOUNT HAS 845 MEMBERS. COULD WE GET A TEAM OF PEOPLE TO MESSAGE EACH INDIVIDUAL (FROM THE TWC FB ACCOUNT) AND ASK THEM TO "STOP BY, SAY HELLO AND LODGE WITH US FOR THE WINTER"?

- Could we increase benefits from referrals?

- Does anyone have younger siblings/younger cousins/younger people in their life that they can recommend TWC to?

We can compete with the big new console games. Why? Because we're FREE. Not all 15 year olds can afford consoles and new games or hi-tec comp kit. Let's reach out to them. We are a very unique game and many of us have been hooked for years; this is not random. Believe in the game. Believe in yourself. We can continue this. I guarantee we can restore some of our current playerbase if we can retain new players and have belief.

I would advise GMs to plan ahead during the Xmas period where older gens usually return for 1 - 3 weeks. This would be an ideal time to spark some activity and retain some potential new players. Christmas events are always fun; please do not leave it all to Rotem. Some original suggestions and implementing them early on would be great. I can help if you need?

The Wizards Chronicles. Harry Potter game by trade, content for all. Small download. Small playerbase - everyone knows everyone. Great community with some dramatic history (there's even a wiki!).

Learn spells from classes and quests, collect items, create magical ones, enhance your stats and, most importantly, test your skills in duels.

Trade in gold, participate in clan wars (Deatheaters vs Aurors) - work your way through the playerbase to become the Head of Aurors or the Dark Lord.

Admin/staff run game as Professors and Headmasters. Very fun for a voluntary staffbase with small/no budget.

I am going to start to advertise as soon as I can.
You need a little bit of insanity to do great things.

I remember looking at a small Harry Potter text based game that allowed players to become teachers if they were active enough. Imagine if someone got to be a teacher on that game and started advertising TWC.

P.S. Don't do that.
